What is YOUR Level of COMMITMENT?
Believe or not there are several levels of ‘Commitment’. They run the gamut from “Committed no Matter What”, “Committed Unless”, “Somewhat Committed” and “Committed with no real substance”.
Commitment is an amazing tool. When an individual is powerfully aligned to a strong level of commitment … nothing will stop them in realizing their goals and desires. Being “Committed no Matter What” means that no matter what gets in their way, i.e., negative mental models, considerations, or circumstances… you WILL actualize your goals. This is an immensely powerful place to be as it takes a high level of courage and accountability. It means you will get out of your own way to self-actualize. Self-Actualization is the highest level of the “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”.
Using a sports analogy… a football team can absolutely win every game if each individual player is playing the game to ‘WIN’ - this is like ‘Committed no Matter What’-. However, if there are team players who are playing the game ‘NOT TO LOSE’, which is like ‘Committed Unless’ it can present obstacles as the team overall is not playing the same game. Have you ever observed or experienced these types of scenarios in your life or work? I recall in 1980 the USA Hockey Team, who were all playing to ‘WIN’ played against all odds and took home the gold medal. I recommend watching the movie Miracle, as it depicts how the team was coached in a way that empowered ‘Committed no Matter What’.
Being willing to discover your level of commitment can be an opportunity in Emotional Intelligence… ultimately having awareness as to how you play the game and what you bring to the table as a team player can be hugely insightful.
