What You Resist Will Persist
What You Resist Will Persist!!
Resistance is the stand one takes when a circumstance or situation in their life isn’t supposed to be happening. As I like to say resistance is where one decides that “What is, ‘isn’t”. If one stays in the place of resistance, then the next stop is resentment and then onto revenge as the individual begins to find ways to fight or walk away from the situation (aka Fight or Fight). Bottom line you will never run hard or fast enough as “What you resist will persist”. Emotionally resistance can take its toll especially on the body via stress, accidents, etc.
Over the years I have discovered that the key area in which individuals resist the most is in making choices. When the choice or decision is not made then the issue becomes a persistent set of challenges and obstacles over time. I watched my father resist the choice to retire for several years. He fought it by taking jobs he didn’t really enjoy so that he could keep working. Then one day while he was enjoying a fun activity that he loved so much he fell from a ladder. That fall resulted in him being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Making choices is crucial to our journey as they move us forward to the next scenario. Even if the choice we make at any given time is not the best one. Mistakes are part of life especially if we are willing to dissect them to uncover where our thinking was at the time and take full ownership of the outcome. The key is not to get caught up in the past of our mistakes. Remember we always have 'Freewill', which is defined as the ability to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded. The key in the previous statement is 'different possible courses of action', in other words, there are several possibilities before you, use your Freewill, inner knowing and guidance of your higher self to make The Choice. Then CHOOSE!
With choice comes Risk. So, Trust and have Faith in yourself and the knowledge that at times, you may not make the Right or Best choice. Additionally, one of the biggest obstacles, for some, to making a choice is the change that occurs with making the choice. Here in lies one of the most debilitating parts of making choices as some would rather their world not change. So, when you allow the fear of change to be more important than the opportunity to make a choice then the fear takes over. “What you allow continues”.
Currently I am in one of my favorite places… the vast blue ocean waters off the coast of the big island of Hawaii where I swim with my dear dolphin friends. The other morning while following these amazing intelligent beings I was very aware that they were changing the direction of our typical swim together. They began to move closer to the rocky shore and the mammoth lava encampments. I know that when the waves begin to hit the lava you can be pulled, rocked, and crushed against them. On one turn the dolphins made I found myself frozen, as I could not believe they were moving toward this one small cove where the waves were rolling in at quite a speed. Do I follow or do I go back to beachy shore? I felt myself just hanging out not making any decision as I was frozen and then the wave came over me. At that moment I choose to follow the dolphins. I had no idea it would take me to safety. What the dolphins knew is the waves were changing direction so if we moved in a similar direction, it was going to be OK. The dolphins knew, I forgot how wise they are and how over the years they always look out for me.
Choice is one of the most amazing tools we have in our life toolbelt and ‘Freewill’ is the ribbon that ties it all together. Take ownership of the “Power of Choice” when you do your life can move forward. So, stay in the present, be mindful and live your life fully and CHOOSE!
My books offer insight into the power of choice and listening to your intuition and objective psyche. They are available on Amazon in paperback, Audible and Kindle formats. "It was ME all Along, the Path to FREEDOM" and "The Dolphin Lady, the Story of a Unique Relationship”
Below, I have included some of my favorite quotes on “The Power of Choice”
“We are not animals; we are not a product of what has happened to us in our past. We have the power of choice.” - Stephen Covey
“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, and determines your destiny.” - Aristotle
“Live today. Let go of your attachment to your past as an excuse for your life conditions today. You are the product of the choices you are making right now.” - Dr. Wayne Dyer
“Be honest with yourself as to why you are choosing to do a particular thing. Then, do it gladly, knowing you are always getting to do what you want. The statement “I do not have a choice” is a lie. You can choose. You simply do not prefer the alternatives available to you, for whatever reason. So, you select the outcome that you most prefer.” - Neale Donald Walsh
“A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there is no action, you haven’t really decided.” - Tony Robbins
“With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose! - Dr. Wayne Dyer
“You are completely in choice of who you will be today in your interactions with others. Compassionate, kind, giving and forgiving will create one set of possibilities; angry, judgmental, critical and defensive will create another one altogether.” - Marianne Williamson
"When it's time to influence someone else’s choice… you must do it in a way that stimulates their curiosity... “Influencing another’s curiosity means introducing ideas/insights into their thinking so that they see value and take action” - Virginia 'Joy' Smith
